About Boba Network (BOBA)
What Is Boba Network (BOBA)?
Boba Network is a Layer 2 (L2) scaling solution augmenting the base computing capabilities of Ethereum and other blockchains such as BNB Chain. The network is built on Optimistic Rollups developed by the Optimism blockchain.
Boba Network claims to reduce gas fees, extend smart contract capabilities and offer higher transactional throughput than Layer 1 networks.
Unlike most L2 solutions, Boba Network isn't a side chain. Instead, it's built atop the Ethereum network as a series of smart contracts executing Ethereum transactions. As a result, Boba Network doesn't come with its own (independent) consensus protocol.
Boba Network's native token, BOBA, is used for governance, staking and gas fees.
BOBA Price
At the time of this writing (Nov. 17, 2022), the price of one BOBA token is about $0.19. At its launch, the token spiked to an all-time high of $7.50. Like many other cryptocurrencies, however, it was unable to sustain this momentum for long.
In November 2022, Boba Network launched the first-ever L2 chain on BNB Chain. This enhancement will scale BNB Chain and enable low fee computation as Boba Network solidifies its reputation as a top-tier multi-chain L2 network. Following the publishing of this news, BOBA's price saw a slight increase. However, its price has since corrected.
What Is BOBA Used For?
The BOBA token is an ERC20 token used in the governance of the Boba Network's DAO. For every token staked in the network, each BOBA holder gets one vote (e.g., 10 tokens staked = 10 votes). Token holders can submit proposals and even delegate their votes per the DAO's rules and guidelines.
BOBA is also used in Boba Network's liquidity pools. The team behind the project has developed a swap-based mechanism to deliver a seamless fund-moving experience from Layer 1 to Layer 2 (and vice versa). Those who choose to provide liquidity on Boba are rewarded with the small fee network users pay for transferring funds between chains.
Additionally, the BOBA token helps sustain the Boba Network long-term, and incentivizes liquidity providers to participate in the network's operations.
BOBA Tokenomics
BOBA tokens have a circulating supply of 348 million tokens. According to CoinGecko, the project's market capitalization currently stands at $65.8 million. The token has a maximum supply of 500 million BOBA tokens, with a $1.24 million daily trading volume.
According to Boba Network’s official website, BOBA’s supply has been distributed as follows:
42% allocated to the treasury
28% airdropped to OMG* token holders
20% to the team
10% allocated to strategic investors
*OMG was the native token of the OMG Network, which has since been inherited by Boba Network (and thus doesn’t exist anymore).
Who Is the Founder of Boba Network?
Alan Chiu, who founded Enya Labs, a pioneer of software frameworks, is the founder of Boba Network. The network’s operations are supported by the Enya team, which comprises a group of alumni from Stanford faculty and alumni.
